But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. -Galatians 5:22-25
The Fruit of the Spirit is visible growth in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. God chooses to give us the Fruits of the Spirit so that others will be able to see God in and through us. God does not want us to have the Fruit of the Spirit so that we will look good or seem more holy, but so God will be glorified. These 9 fruits are a representation of the freedom that we have been given through the sacrifice of Christ.
As Christians, we represent the characteristics of the Lord, and we need to ask ourselves if we are representing the Lord as He has called us too.
Matthew 12:33 says, “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.”
For the tree is known by its fruit.
You are known by your fruit.
What fruit are you known by? Are you a loving, kind, patient person? Do you show peace and joy in all circumstances?
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. -Galatians 5:24-26
As we head into this series of talking through each fruit of the spirit, begin to pray and ask God to show you which fruit that you lack, but also find out which fruit you do have! Be encouraged by the work God has already done in you, but remember that there is always more room for growth! I truly believe that God will change hearts, draw us closer to Him, and make His love known through having a better understanding of the Fruits of the Spirit.
