Remember God’s Goodness

I will remember the deeds of the Lordyes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.  I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds. -Psalm 77:11-12

About a month ago, I came across Psalm 77 and it completely changed me, especially verses 11 & 12.  I was full of worry and anxiety the day I read this Psalm, but it reminded me to remember God’s goodness.  So, I wrote “Remember God’s goodness” on my hand, went through the rest of the day, and continued to read and pray over Psalm 77 the days that followed.  And ever since, God has taught me so much about what it means to remember His goodness.

I learned that I have to reflect on all that God has done for me and thank him for it to truly remember God’s goodness! 2 Corinthians 9:15 says, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” When you begin to remember the works that God has done, the problems we face don’t seem so big anymore. Take a minute and think about some things that God has done for you, and thank Him for it!  The perspective that reflecting gives on the blessings of the Lord changes everything.  Life can get really rough, and all of us worry, but when you remember that Jesus has defeated death and sin forever, nothing can compare to that!  Remembering that God created this earth (Genesis 1:1), formed you and knows you completely (Psalm 139:13-14), split the Red Sea so the Israelites could walk through it and have victory over the Egyptians (Exodus 14:21-22), gave Abraham and Sarah a son (Genesis 21:1-3), holds this world in His hands (Isaiah 48:13), turned water into wine (John 2:1-25), fed the five thousand (Mark 6:30-44), gave the blind sight (John 9:6-7), died on the cross (Luke 23:33), rose again (Luke 24:1-7), and cares for you and me (Psalm 82:13)… those things remind us that the troubles of this world will fade in light of His glory and grace!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!  2 Corinthians 5:17

Looking back and remembering the day that the Lord called your name and brought you into His family for all of eternity sets the right perspective!  We all have days where we feel lost, hurt, broken, and confused… but Jesus has saved us from our sin and given us a new life and that is the best news!

But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.  Ephesians 2:4-5

All of us worry about the future, but when we remember what the Lord has done in the past, we will be reminded that God will be faithful once again (listen to Do it Again by Elevation Worship)!

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Hebrews 13:8

This idea of ‘remembering God’s goodness’ probably isn’t new to most of you reading this, but it is so important that we take a few minutes each day and reflect on the cross and remember all the things God has done for us. Before you look at your phone in the morning, thank the Lord for the cross.  Remember God’s goodness.  Let His goodness and love for you be the center of your days!

“Everything will fade in the light of His glory and grace.”

For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done.  Psalm 94:2
